"In Memoriam" does mean "into Memory" right ?

In Memory Databases and In Memory BI, is quite hot these days.

Well let me tell you, in the early 80ties everyone was working “In Memory” by default.

The x86 based PC’s, started the OS from a 5¼ inch floppy disk in to memory.

Memory was exact 640k large !

On top of that, the memory had to load the applications to run as well.

For those who are getting curious, have a look here what “In Memory” meant.

A few year later the UMA (Upper Memory Address) was released. Gaving you a playing field of 1 Mb memory. And the rest of the story we all know.

Well funny to notice that today 30 years later, when all of these systems have died … “In Memoriam” does mean “Into Memory” right ?

Does remind me to a movie from nearly 30 years back, called “Back to the Future”. A comic Science Fiction.

But then again IT technology is a bit Science Fiction, isn’t it.
